Activin A is a member of the TGF β superfamily. It is a 26 kDa disulfide-linked homodimer of two βA chains, each containing 116 amino acid residues. Activin A is widely used in stem cell research, such as in differentiation of embryonic stem cells to definitive endoderm. The biological activities of Activin A can be neutralized by diffusible TGFβ antagonists, Follistatin (available from StemRD).
StemRD's Activin A is made in human 293 cells in xeno-free medium, which renders human-specific post-translational modifications. We purified this product through a series of chromatography including HPLC to >95% pure. Activity is determined by using a SMAD reporter assay to be EC50 ~1 ng/mL. Data shown are typical HPLC profile and SDS-PAGE of StemRD's Activin A.
